Manhunt across county lines ends in arrest

Bonner County Manhunt Ends in Arrest After Suspect Fires at Officers During Domestic Call

HOPE, Idaho — A Boundary County man is in custody following a cross-county manhunt that began in the early morning hours Wednesday after shots were fired at law enforcement responding to a domestic disturbance, the Bonner County Sheriff’s Office announced Tuesday.

Deputies were called to the reported domestic incident at approximately 2:23 a.m., according to Boundary County Sheriff Travis Stolley. When officers arrived, the suspect opened fire on them before fleeing the residence and crossing into Bonner County.

Law enforcement tracked the man through the Samuels area before ultimately apprehending him just before noon near Hope. State and local agencies assisted in the operation. The suspect’s name, the specific warrant he was arrested on, and the charges he faces had not been publicly released at the time of this report.

Sheriff Stolley confirmed that no officers or civilians were wounded during the incident. “No injuries were reported to any individuals, and all family members involved have been confirmed safe and are receiving support,” Stolley said in a statement.

The incident follows a pattern of law enforcement pursuits in the region. A previous cross-border vehicle pursuit also ended in a Bonner County arrest, and residents in the area had earlier been asked to shelter in place and secure their homes as the manhunt unfolded.

Additional details, including formal charges, are expected to be released as the case moves forward through the legal process.

What Comes Next

Prosecutors in both Boundary and Bonner counties are expected to review the case as charges are prepared. The Bonner County Sheriff’s Office has not indicated a timeline for releasing the suspect’s identity or the specific warrant that led to his arrest. Residents in the Hope and Samuels areas have been cleared following the conclusion of the operation.
