Bonner County Area Manhunt Ends in Arrest After Shots Fired at Deputies
SAMUELS AREA, Idaho — A manhunt in North Idaho that prompted authorities to warn residents to lock their doors and avoid certain roads ended with a suspect in custody Wednesday, according to the Boundary County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were called to a domestic violence incident shortly after 2:30 a.m. Wednesday. While officers were on scene conducting their investigation, someone opened fire on law enforcement. The suspect then fled, triggering an active search across the surrounding area.
Dispatchers urged residents in the Samuels area — particularly near Sandcreek Parkway and Highway 95 — to stay inside, secure their homes, and report any unfamiliar individuals in the area. Authorities asked the public to avoid the area entirely while the search was underway.
The Boundary County Sheriff’s Office later confirmed via a public Facebook post that the suspect had been taken into custody. No injuries to law enforcement were reported in the initial information released.
The incident is one of several recent law enforcement actions in the North Idaho panhandle region. Bonner County has seen other suspect apprehensions in recent months, including a Bonner County arrest following a vehicle pursuit that extended into Montana.
The investigation remains ongoing. Additional charges or details about the suspect’s identity had not been publicly released at the time of this report.
What Comes Next
The Boundary County Sheriff’s Office is expected to release further information about the suspect and any charges filed. Residents near the Samuels area and along Highway 95 can expect continued law enforcement presence as the investigation proceeds.
