Women in the Woods Field Day Set for May 8 in Sandpoint

Women in the Woods Field Day Scheduled for May 8 at Pine Street Woods in Sandpoint, Idaho

Sandpoint Event Offers Hands-On Forest Stewardship Education for Women

SANDPOINT, Idaho — Women across North Idaho with an interest in forest stewardship, land management, and outdoor education are invited to attend the Women in the Woods Field Day on Friday, May 8, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Pine Street Woods in Sandpoint. The event will be hosted at the Kaniksu Land Trust facility located at 11915 W Pine St.

The full-day outdoor event is designed specifically for women landowners, natural resource professionals, and enthusiasts who want to expand their knowledge of forest and land management practices. Organizers say the environment is supportive and educational, offering participants the chance to engage in hands-on learning experiences alongside peers who share a common interest in responsible land stewardship.

The cost to attend is $10 per person, which includes lunch. Organizers note that space is limited and are encouraging interested participants to register early. Registration is available online at bit.ly/clearwater_events.

For additional information, residents may contact event coordinator Audra Cochran at audrac@uidaho.edu or by phone at 208-476-4434.

Broad Coalition of Idaho Organizations Behind the Event

The Women in the Woods Field Day is made possible through a partnership of several prominent Idaho land management and educational institutions. Sponsors include the Idaho Department of Lands, the University of Idaho, Kaniksu Land Trust, and American Forest Management.

The collaboration reflects growing interest among Idaho’s landowner community in practical education around sustainable forestry practices. Events like this one give rural Idahoans — particularly women who own or work on forested land — direct access to expertise from state agencies and academic institutions, helping them make informed decisions about the land they steward.

Bonner County’s landscape makes it a natural setting for this kind of programming. The region surrounding Sandpoint is home to thousands of acres of private forestland, and responsible land management remains a priority for many families and property owners throughout the Panhandle. Events that connect landowners with practical knowledge and professional networks serve a meaningful role in the community.

Kaniksu Land Trust, which is serving as the host organization, has long been a fixture in conservation and land stewardship efforts across Bonner County and the surrounding region. Its involvement lends institutional credibility and a welcoming outdoor setting for the day’s activities.

The University of Idaho’s participation further underscores the state’s commitment to connecting its land-grant educational mission with communities across rural Idaho. Programs that bring university-level expertise directly into the field — rather than requiring residents to travel to campus — represent a practical form of outreach that benefits landowners throughout North Idaho.

Community programming of this nature reflects the kind of locally grounded, property-rights-minded education that resonates with many Bonner County residents. Understanding how to responsibly manage private forestland has direct implications for fire mitigation, wildlife habitat, timber value, and long-term family land ownership. Events similar in spirit to those recognized through initiatives like the Travers Park Project, which recently received a state award for community-focused land improvement in Idaho, demonstrate the value of grassroots stewardship efforts across the state.

Those who are involved in outdoor recreation, property ownership, or natural resource careers may also find value in the professional networking opportunities the event provides. North Idaho’s forestland communities benefit when landowners and professionals can share knowledge and build relationships with state agencies and university extension programs.

Residents interested in other community educational opportunities in the region may also want to take note of the NIC Foundation Really BIG Raffle, with an early bird registration deadline of April 30, as another example of local organizations creating meaningful engagement across Bonner County.
