Schweitzer Forecast Calls for Up to 12 Inches of New Snow

Schweitzer could receive 9 to 12 inches of additional snow from Tuesday morning through Thursday evening, giving the Idaho resort the strongest accumulation forecast in the Northern Rockies.

The broader forecast favors northern Idaho and northwest Montana through Thursday, with the most productive snowfall expected Tuesday night into Wednesday. Whitefish Mountain is forecast to receive 4 to 5 inches during the same period.

All 10 resorts in the forecast remain closed for lift-served skiing. The resort totals are:

  • Schweitzer: 9 to 12 inches
  • Whitefish Mountain: 4 to 5 inches
  • Brundage: 2 inches
  • Grand Targhee: 1 inch
  • Tamarack: 1 inch
  • Jackson Hole: 0 to 1 inch
  • Big Sky: 0 to 1 inch
  • Bridger Bowl: 0 inches
  • Bogus Basin: 0 inches
  • Sun Valley: 0 inches

Central Idaho is expected to remain showery into Wednesday, with snow levels generally between 5,000 and 6,000 feet. Brundage has the stronger forecast among Brundage, Bogus Basin and Sun Valley.

Snow in the Tetons and southwest Montana is expected to taper Tuesday. A mostly dry and warmer break is forecast across the southern mountains Thursday, with afternoon temperatures reaching the upper 30s and lower 40s at many forecast elevations.

Snow levels are forecast near 5,000 feet Tuesday before dropping to roughly 3,500 to 4,500 feet Wednesday night and Thursday. Mountain temperatures should be in the upper 20s and lower 30s as the snow becomes drier. Winds around Schweitzer could gust from 30 to 35 mph.

Another opportunity for mountain snow arrives Friday through Monday. The more promising signal during that period shifts toward the Tetons and southwest Montana, with a better chance for organized precipitation farther east Sunday into Monday. Specific weekend snowfall totals remain uncertain.

A quieter stretch is favored after that system, while early-November snow signals remain too inconsistent for a specific storm forecast.
