The historic Panida Theater in downtown Sandpoint hosted South Carolina folk duo Shovels and Rope for a one-night performance on Friday, Oct. 9, 2026.
Cary Ann Hearst and Michael Trent, who are both musical and romantic partners, took the stage at 7:30 p.m. The concert offered local audiences a chance to see the band perform material from their extensive discography, which includes seven studio albums recorded as a duo and three collaborative releases.
Hearst and Trent began their careers as separate solo acts traveling across South Carolina before joining the same bands and eventually launching their own project. Their sound is known for blending folk, rock, country, and occasional punk influences. The duo has gained national recognition, including a feature on The Late Show with David Letterman, and has collaborated with artists such as Brandi Carlile and Shakey Graves.
Tickets for the Friday night show ranged from $28 to $48 depending on seating selection. Patrons could purchase admission at panida.org or at the door.
