The Sandpoint Legends concluded an undefeated run at the Kimberly Julyfest tournament last weekend, capturing the 35+ Masters Division championship with three consecutive wins and a remarkable defensive record.
The local squad did not allow a single goal across the tournament, defeating Montana Rapids 2-0 in the final match to secure the title. The shutout performance capped a dominant weekend that reinforced Sandpoint’s standing as a competitive force in regional adult soccer.
Continuing a Regional Tradition
Sandpoint has maintained a presence at the Kimberly Julyfest tournament since the early 2000s, fielding adult soccer teams in the British Columbia-based competition year after year. Daniel Anderson, Sandpoint High School’s boys’ soccer head coach and a member of the Legends roster, emphasized the team’s long-standing commitment to the event and the sport itself.
“This is a tournament that we have been bringing adult soccer teams from Sandpoint to since the early 2000’s,” Anderson said. “We are a group of guys that love the sport.”
The tournament victory follows a strong showing earlier in the summer, when the Legends defeated the Coeur d’Alene Idahoans 9-1 in an exhibition match in June. The team also claimed the men’s open championship at a tournament in Cranbrook, British Columbia.
