SANDPOINT, Idaho — The Sandpoint Future High School Boys basketball team brought home a tournament championship this weekend, going a perfect 5-0 at the Spokane Kick Off Tournament held April 25 and 26 at the Warehouse Athletic Facility in Spokane, Washington.
The North Idaho squad posted dominant victories across both days of competition, defeating a field that included teams from Coeur d’Alene, Davenport, and Kellogg to claim the division title.
Dominant Performance Across Two Days
Sandpoint opened Saturday’s action with a 58-46 victory over Coeur d’Alene 16U before following that up with a 52-37 win over Davenport. Heading into Sunday with an unblemished record, the team continued its strong play with three additional wins.
On Sunday, Sandpoint defeated Kellogg 46-22, topped Davenport a second time by a score of 52-26, and closed out the tournament with a commanding 62-31 victory over Kellogg in a rematch. The team’s average margin of victory across all five games reflected consistent, disciplined play on both ends of the floor.
The roster that secured the championship included Jamen Jensen, Asher Nieman, Alec Lieuallen, Logan Iverson, Derrick Chamberlain, Mason Martz, Ethan Evans, and Bryson Hull. Mason Peters, also a member of the team, was not pictured in the team photo released following the tournament. The squad was coached by Paul Nieman.
A Bright Moment for Bonner County Youth Athletics
The tournament title marks a strong showing for Sandpoint’s youth basketball community, which continues to develop competitive players in Bonner County and across the North Idaho Panhandle. The Spokane Kick Off Tournament provided an opportunity for the team to compete against regional opponents from both Idaho and eastern Washington, offering valuable experience against a variety of programs.
The Warehouse Athletic Facility in Spokane has become a popular venue for multi-team youth tournaments in the Inland Northwest, drawing clubs and school-affiliated programs from across the region. Sandpoint’s ability to win five consecutive games against that level of competition is a testament to the preparation and cohesion the team demonstrated over the weekend.
