North Idaho College Leads Idaho in Fall Enrollment Growth

North Idaho College recorded the largest percentage enrollment increase among Idaho’s eight public colleges and universities this fall, reaching 4,833 students.

NIC’s enrollment rose from 4,662 students last fall, a 3.7% increase. Across the state’s public colleges and universities, combined enrollment declined 0.7%. The College of Eastern Idaho ranked second in percentage growth, with enrollment up 1.6%.

NIC’s enrollment has increased by 854 students since fall 2023, when the college reported 3,979 students. That represents a 21.5% increase over the period.

New-student enrollment grew 8.6%, from 1,022 to 1,110 students. Full-time equivalent enrollment increased 3%, from 2,700 to 2,781. Dual-credit enrollment rose 2.1% to 1,784 students.

NIC attributed the growth to marketing and recruitment, partnerships with high schools, improvements to the enrollment process and the affordability of community colleges.

“This is more than a one-year increase,” NIC President Nick Swayne said. “We’re seeing sustained growth, and that tells us students and families are recognizing the value of what North Idaho College offers.”

Swayne said the increase in new students was particularly encouraging.

NIC said it is expanding educational opportunities, strengthening workforce partnerships and developing programs for students and regional employers.
