Lake Pend Oreille Idaho Club Pulls Tons of Debris from Bayview Lakebed
The Lake Pend Oreille Idaho Club (LPOIC) wrapped up its annual Scenic Bay Cleanup Project earlier this month, with volunteers, scuba divers, and members of the U.S. Navy working together from May 4–7 to pull debris from the waters near Bayview, Idaho.
Crews recovered tires, large metal objects, and other waste from the lakebed — including areas near kokanee spawning beds — during the multi-day effort. The project reflects LPOIC’s ongoing mission as a volunteer-led nonprofit focused on preserving Lake Pend Oreille and its fish populations.
Funding for this year’s cleanup came from several community partners, including the Idaho Community Foundation through the Getts-Yonker Charitable Fund and Forever Idaho North, the Kalispel Tribe of Indians, the Charlie and Jylan Johnson Fund, and donations from LPOIC members.
The Scenic Bay Cleanup is one of several community conservation efforts active across Bonner County each spring. Residents who want to get involved with future projects can reach LPOIC through the organization’s website at lpoic.org.
