Sandpoint Middle School will receive two new electronic scoreboards this fall, thanks to donations from local businesses Idagon Homes and Taylor & Sons Chevrolet.
Crosby Tajan, assistant principal at the school, announced that the equipment is scheduled for installation in fall 2027. The new units replace aging hand-me-downs from Sandpoint High School that had served the middle school for approximately five years.
The donation arrives as the school undergoes significant gymnasium renovations. Construction is set to finish by summer 2027, creating two full-sized basketball courts. Tajan noted that the scoreboard upgrades were not included in the original renovation budget, making the private contributions essential for modernizing the facility’s technology.
Justin Shuck of Idagon Homes funded the larger scoreboard, while Brett Taylor of Taylor & Sons Chevrolet covered the cost of the smaller unit. Both businesses emphasized their connection to the community and the school system.
“I went to Sandpoint Middle School and Sandpoint High School, so I’ve got some Bullpup pride,” Shuck told the Bonner County Daily Bee.
The new scoreboards feature Bluetooth interfaces and operate independently, a significant upgrade from the previous setup where both units ran together. This change allows two SMS teams to practice simultaneously without interference.
Tajan explained that while the old equipment functioned adequately, the renovations provided an opportunity to improve capabilities. “We were happy to get them over here,” Tajan told the Bonner County Daily Bee. “With all the renovations that we’re doing to SMS, we thought it would be good to have new scoreboards that have updated capabilities.”
The visual design of the new boards closely matches the existing ones, ensuring a seamless look in the renovated gym. However, the internal technology is modernized to support current athletic needs and future tournament hosting once construction concludes.
This community-driven effort highlights local business support for North Idaho schools. As Sandpoint prepares for the expanded court space, the new scoreboards will serve as a functional centerpiece for basketball practices and games in the coming years.
