The Idaho Judicial Branch deployed an enhanced court records search tool across the state’s county courthouses this week, expanding public access to case information without requiring users to know a case number or party name.
The new interface, installed in at least one computer kiosk at all 44 county courthouses, allows residents to search hearings and case details through a simplified lookup system. Records are also accessible through the Idaho Judicial Branch website and at the Idaho Supreme Court building in Boise.
What Idaho Law Requires
Idaho law mandates that court records remain open to public inspection at all reasonable times. State code also protects the right to copy documents by hand or photography, though courts are permitted to charge for copying services to recover administrative costs.
High-Profile Cases Now Online
Among the records now accessible online are filings from the 2022 University of Idaho student murders investigation. Court documents from the Andrea Shaw case—in which she was charged in 2025 with killing her twins—are also available through the new system.
The rollout represents a significant step toward modernizing how Idahoans access judicial information, reducing barriers that previously required in-person courthouse visits or knowledge of specific case identifiers.
