Idaho State Capitol rotunda

Fatal Accident and Ongoing Traffic Concerns

Bonner County law enforcement responded to a fatal vehicle accident near Highway 95 and Colburn Canyon Road in the Sandpoint area on the morning of June 21, marking one of the most serious incidents during a two-day period that saw multiple calls for service across the county.

Beyond the fatal crash, the Bonner County Sheriff’s Office fielded numerous reports of reckless driving throughout June 21 and into June 22. Officers responded to five separate reckless driver complaints during the June 21 shift, with reports coming from locations including Blanchard, the Priest River area, Coolin, and Sandpoint. A sixth reckless driver report came in late the following evening near Kootenai.

Range of Calls Across County Jurisdictions

The sheriff’s office handled a broad spectrum of calls beyond traffic matters. A weapons offense was reported in the Five Lakes Estates area of Sagle on the morning of June 21. Officers also responded to a trespassing complaint in the same neighborhood, a domestic dispute on Spirit Lake Cutoff near Spirit Lake, and a disturbance at Kelso Lake Road in Athol.

Multiple 911 hang-up calls came in during the day—seven separate incidents across Sandpoint, Blanchard, and Spirit Lake—which officers investigated as precautionary measures. Fish and game calls were logged on Upper Pack River Road and South Rena Road, while an animal complaint was reported on Bowen Arrow Road.

A stolen vehicle was recovered in the Blanchard area late on June 21 at 8:22 p.m., and several information reports were filed at various locations around the county, suggesting calls that required documentation but no immediate enforcement action.

Sandpoint Police Activity

Sandpoint Police handled a smaller volume of calls during the period. Officers responded to a possible fraud report early on June 21 morning in the pre-100 block of Welty Drive. Later that evening, a suspicious person was reported near Cedar Street and North Florence Avenue, and a disorderly conduct call came in on Fifth Avenue at 11 p.m. A disturbance was also reported on Alder Street on June 22.

The two-day snapshot of dispatch records reflects typical law enforcement activity across the Sandpoint and broader Bonner County areas, with traffic safety concerns emerging as a recurring theme during the period. The fatal accident underscores ongoing road safety challenges in the region, particularly along Highway 95, which has seen multiple reckless driving reports in recent months.

Residents experiencing emergencies or suspicious activity are encouraged to contact the Bonner County Sheriff’s Office at the non-emergency line or 911 for urgent situations. The dispatch log remains a public record available for community review.

What Comes Next

Law enforcement continues to monitor traffic patterns and respond to calls for service across Bonner County. The fatal accident investigation will likely result in follow-up reports as the incident is fully documented. Community members are reminded to report reckless driving and suspicious activity promptly to help keep local roads and neighborhoods safe.
