Kaniksu Land Trust, Priest Lake Foundation Among 27 Groups Sharing Idaho Future Fund Awards

Downtown Boise, Idaho

SANDPOINT, Idaho — Two Bonner County nonprofits are among the latest recipients of grants from the Idaho Future Fund, a privately endowed program administered by the Idaho Community Foundation to support youth education from preschool through 12th grade.

The Idaho Community Foundation announced this year’s grant recipients, with 27 nonprofits, schools, and community organizations statewide sharing a combined $293,758 in 2026 awards. Organizations across the North Region — covering Bonner, Boundary, Kootenai, Shoshone, and Benewah counties — received a combined $70,758.

Local Recipients and Their Programs

Kaniksu Land Trust, Inc. received a $5,000 grant to fund summer camp scholarships, literacy programming, and meals for young people. The Sandpoint-area organization works to connect youth with the natural environment while building foundational academic skills.

Priest Lake Community Education Foundation, Inc. received $10,000 to support free preschool and kindergarten readiness classes. The program targets school preparedness for young children in the Priest Lake area, where access to early childhood education options can be limited by geography.

Both organizations address gaps in youth services across a rural region of North Idaho where distance and limited resources can restrict access to enrichment programs available in more urban parts of the state.

About the Idaho Future Fund

The Idaho Future Fund was established by an anonymous couple from Blaine County. Administered through the Idaho Community Foundation, the fund directs grants toward programs that help students learn, grow, and reach their potential at every stage from early childhood through high school graduation.

Kent Fogg, director of impact at the Idaho Community Foundation, said the grants address tangible community needs — ranging from preschool access and early literacy to afterschool learning and summer enrichment programs.

The Idaho Community Foundation has been operating in Idaho for nearly 40 years, connecting charitable donors with community organizations across the state.

What Comes Next

With funding now secured, both Kaniksu Land Trust and the Priest Lake Community Education Foundation are expected to put their respective grants to work during the 2026 program year. The Priest Lake Foundation’s kindergarten readiness classes and Kaniksu Land Trust’s summer camp and literacy programming will serve Bonner County children through the coming months.
