Sandpoint High School senior Isaac Schmit has committed to continue his track and field career at the College of Idaho in Caldwell, adding another accomplished athlete to the NAIA school’s sprint program.
Schmit brings an impressive high school resume to the Yotes, including five state meet qualifications and three district championship titles in sprint events. His personal best of 10.79 seconds in the 100-meter dash stands as the second-fastest time in Sandpoint High history, while his 200-meter dash personal record of 22.18 seconds ranks fourth all-time for the Bulldogs.
Record-Breaking Relay Performances
The senior sprinter played a key role in Sandpoint’s relay success this past season, helping the 4×100 relay team clock a school-record time of 41.82 seconds. He also contributed to the 4×200 relay squad’s record-setting performance of 1:27.35.
Beyond his three district gold medals, Schmit earned four district silver medals across various events during his high school career. His consistent performance at the highest levels of Idaho high school track made him a fixture at championship meets throughout his four years of varsity competition.
Elite Training Background
Schmit’s development as a sprinter extended beyond the high school season. He competed twice at NIKE Indoor Nationals as a member of the Spokane Speed Academy, gaining experience against some of the nation’s top youth sprinters in indoor competition.
Over his four-year varsity career at Sandpoint High, Schmit accumulated 37 gold medals across individual events and relays, establishing himself as one of the most decorated track athletes in recent school history.
What Comes Next
Schmit will join the College of Idaho track and field program beginning in the 2026-27 academic year. The Yotes compete in the Cascade Collegiate Conference within the NAIA and maintain facilities in Caldwell, approximately 400 miles south of Sandpoint.
The College of Idaho has built a reputation for developing competitive sprint programs at the NAIA level, providing Schmit an opportunity to continue improving his times while pursuing his college education. His arrival adds depth to the Yotes’ sprint corps as the program continues recruiting talented athletes from across the Northwest.
Sandpoint High’s track and field program, under head coach Doug Fry and assistant coach Tyler Haynes, continues to produce college-level talent from the North Idaho community.
