Panhandle Special Needs, Inc. to Host Greenhouse Opening, Carnival and Fundraiser Events in Sandpoint, Idaho During Giving Week
Sandpoint, Idaho — Panhandle Special Needs, Inc. (PSNI) is marking a milestone spring season with a series of community events tied to regional giving campaigns, including a greenhouse opening, a free customer appreciation carnival and a fundraising tap takeover at a local restaurant.
The events are scheduled across the first week of May at the PSNI campus located at 1424 N. Boyer Ave. in Sandpoint, as well as at Smokesmith Bar-B-Que, and are designed to celebrate five decades of community support while raising funds through the Idaho Gives and Live Give 7B regional giving campaigns.
Greenhouse Opens Saturday with Free Carnival for All Ages
The PSNI Greenhouse will open for the season on Saturday, May 2, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The greenhouse is stocked with its well-known hanging flower baskets, along with a wide selection of bedding plants and flowers, vegetable starts, herbs and select perennials — making it a go-to destination for Sandpoint-area gardeners each spring.
Running concurrently with the greenhouse opening, PSNI will host a customer appreciation carnival from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the same day. The carnival is a free event featuring games, complimentary hot dogs and popcorn, and is open to the broader Bonner County community.
Megan Albertson, chief marketing and development officer at PSNI, emphasized that the events are an expression of gratitude for decades of local support. “This is our way of giving back and saying thank you,” Albertson stated. “For 50 years, the Sandpoint community has supported our mission and the individuals we serve. We hope everyone will come celebrate with us.”
PSNI has served individuals with special needs across the North Idaho Panhandle region for half a century, relying in large part on community partnerships and philanthropic giving to sustain its programs and services. Events like the Greenhouse opening represent both a fundraising opportunity and a visible reminder of how PSNI engages with the broader Sandpoint economy through its social enterprise operations.
Tap Takeover at Smokesmith Closes Out Giving Week
The week’s festivities will conclude with a tap takeover event at Smokesmith Bar-B-Que on Thursday, May 7, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. A portion of food and beverage proceeds from the evening will benefit PSNI, tying the event directly to the Idaho Gives and Live Give 7B regional giving campaigns.
The Smokesmith event will feature live music, a silent auction and PSNI’s signature flower baskets available for purchase. The combination of community entertainment and direct fundraising reflects PSNI’s approach to building awareness while simultaneously generating revenue in support of its mission.
“We hope that all of Sandpoint will either stop by the Greenhouse and carnival or join us at Smokesmith,” Albertson added.
Idaho Gives is a statewide 24-hour online giving event that mobilizes donors across Idaho in support of nonprofits, while Live Give 7B focuses on the 7B region of North Idaho. Both campaigns offer an opportunity for local organizations like PSNI to reach donors beyond their immediate networks. Community involvement in regional giving initiatives has become an important pillar of nonprofit sustainability across North Idaho, as organizations balance programming costs with the generosity of local residents and businesses.
